Christianity without the Eastern Roman empire?

Western Christian liturgy without Eastern influence would look different from the western Mass of the early medieval Europe or the Tridentine Mass today. The Mass will have the Kyrie, but not the Gloria in excelsis Deo. The Constantinople Credo might have been replaced by the Apostle's Creed. The Canon Missae would be the same, but might not be preceded by the Sanctus. The Credo and Sanctus were late 6th century developments that might not have been incorporated into the Frankish-Roman Mass if the Arabs had been able to block communication between Eastern and Western Christians.

No Eastern Roman Empire (or Byzantium) in the 650s would mean that the Lombardi take Rome perhaps in the early 8th century. The result could be a papacy that is subordinated to the Lombardi King in Rome. Now, a Lombardi conquest of Rome could see a Frankish intervention to upheld the sovereignty of the Pope. On the other hand, without an Islamic invasion of France it would be more difficult for the Carolingian dynasty to consolidate and maintain power. The result could be civil war and a further weakening of the Frankish state rather then the strength and unity of the early Carolingians.
