Christiana

I once found an AH site that had one of those shattered America maps. It was pretty run-of-the-mill, though I also remember that in the northern Midwest was a section called Christiana, and it had a flag like one of the Scandivinian nations. Has anyone seen it? Please post the link.

Also, what would a colony called Christiana be like? A Swedish inland settlement?

That sounds a little like mine- was it the one attached here?

The map's a vague placeholder for something I was thinking on working on when I've finished the 'Shot Heard Around the World' series (obligatory plug)- The PoD is intended to be something along the lines of Quebec being admitted as a State in the newly-formed US after a far nastier ARW, which causes all sorts of problems and eventually leads to the dissolution of the USA into its constituent parts.

As for Christiania, I thought the chaotic (and slower) settlement of the American interior by Europeans would lead to certain groups maintaining a strong ethnic identity- and with the major North-American powers rather busy fighting amongst themselves, settlers from such an ethnic group who were in the majority in a certain area could well declare their own state. Think Texas or California, but with Scandanavians instead of Anglos and Robert E Lee as Santa Ana :p

Not hugely likely perhaps, but as Balkanisation is the primary objective here it sort of makes sense I think.

First post here BTW so hi all :)

Christiana...Wasn't she the Queen of Sweden after Gustav...

ah what 1632 has taught me :D

In a very broad sense, yes- I'd forgotten about the Metis before I saw that, and had upper Canada extending further across the plains. As you say though, most Balkanised America maps are pretty similar to each other- haven't seen anyone do a plausible and well constructed timeline of one before though, so that was what attractied me to the idea. As it is though, I think I'm being derailed with thoughts of doing a timeline culminating in the British Civil war of 1910-1913...

Fort Christina ?

Wasn't there OTL an actual Christiana settlement established by the Swedes in present-day Delaware (near Wilmington IIRC) during the late 17th C, which was then absorbed by the English ? WI your Christiana thread uses this POD ?

Yes, there was a New Sweden. Don't remember the exact location--it was in the Atlantic area.
