I actually remember reading that awhile ago. But the problem is, even though he wanted to unite Romania, it didn't really seem like anybody else did. I mean, if the non-Romanian Szekler and Saxon nobles in Transylvania and Polophile Boyars in Moldavia, as well as many Vlach boyars from his own Principality didn't want to see a united Romania, he wasn't going to get a united Romania. However, the Habsburgs did for a while see a united Romania as being in their interests, as they sent Basta over to help Michael. However, eventually they too saw that Michael's dream of an independent, united Romania would once again not be in their interests. And I mean, yeah, his rebellion probably wouldn't be successful, as the Transylvanians and Moldavians kicked his ass out, and he was only able to regain some success because the Habsburgs helped him.

I have question slightly related to this thread.
If the Habsburg would conquer Bosnia from Turks in the Long Turkish War (,or in Great Turkish War), could they rechristianise the muslim bosniak population there?
It's possible. Off the top of my head I can't recall that mnay times that sort of thing happened. I suppose Spain and the reconquista is an example.

The Habsburg had no interest in a united Romania; what they wanted was Transylvania annexed back into royal Hungary but would settle for it as a vassal state. They also wanted Wallachia and Moldavia as vassals. The three principalities united could be a threat to Habsburg Hungary.

Ah, yes. Reading Michael's Wikipedia (yeah, yeah, Wikipedia is cringiest source, but who really cares?), I see that their plan was to annex Transylvania, and they only had Michael assassinated after they realized he wanted to annex Transylvania again.
