Christian Morocco

Here's an idea:

The Vandals end up further west so instead of a kingdom around Carthage in the area of modern Tunisia they form a state where Morocco would be. I don't think that it would be conquered by Justinian so it could survive up to the time of the moslem invasions and MAYBE resist them.

There's two general optiosn that could be explored.

The first is that the Islamic conquest of North Africa stalls at some point. Perhaps the Kahina wins her war against the Arabs, and keeps the Berbers (who are majority Christian at this point) independent. Instead, the Arabs fall back to Cyernaica. Later on, the Arabs manage to conquer Tunisia again, and many later years are able to conquer Algeria. By that time, Morocco had had time to consolidate a strong Christian monarchy and is able to retain its independence. Algeria is ruled by Muslims at some point, but has a large Christian Berber population.

A second possibility is that King Sebastian never fights the Battle of Alcacer Quibir in 1578. Instead, he fights more intelligently, and Portugal is able to somehow conquer Morocca after a long period of time. Say by 1600, the Portuguese rules the entire western and northern coast and has taken Fez. Portugal continues to invest resources into the conquest of Moroccco and eventually conquers the entire kingdom. There is long term Portuguese settlement in Morocco, and eventually the Portuguese (or descendents of the Portuguese in a Portuguese-Moroccan ethnic blend) becomes the dominant the population in Morocco. The identity of the country becomes predominantly Christian with a Muslim minority. At some point, Morocco becomes independent. That could be anything from a conquest of Portugal that causes Morocco to not give in and get used to ruling its own affairs, to something similar to a colonial revolt akin, or independence movement.

Many variations of these two scenarios could be used.
