Out of the various warlords that fought the KMT during the Northern Expedition and against Chiang Kai-shek in the Central Plains War, could any of them have decided to ally with the CCP or even join the CCP after their defeat? Likewise, could any members of the KMT opposed to CKS, particularly Wang Jingwei and other members of the Wuhan government decide to ally or join with the CCP?

Many of them did. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolutionary_Committee_of_the_Chinese_Kuomintang

The most famous ones being Feng Yuxiang, Long Yun, and some other big warlord whose name I forgot. Also, pretty much the entire Xinjiang KMT defected.

Many also defected after the Civil War, such as Li Zongren.

Would it be plausible to get these defections before the Sino-Japanese war though?

Only if the CPC was a serious threat that was seen as one that could win (no one defects to a sure loser).

IMO, the Sino-Japanese War was very important to Communist victory. It gave them several years of breathing space and Japan's defeat allowed the CPC access to Northeast China/Manchuria, one of the regions where they were most popular.

Obviously, there are other ways for the Communists to win, but it'll be hard, especially after the Mukden Incident
