China - Eastern Parter of the Central Powers

Ripping off the China as a member of the Axis thread. A World war 1 timeline.

i.e. Germany doesn't do the 1897 shake down of Shantung but supports the Chinese government on a free trade policy. Boxer rebellion doesn't happen. China is stronger and sympathetic to Germany as a friend against the various powers trying to dominate her.

China feels that if Germany is defeated that she would be a the mercy of the various other powers and her country split and annexed.

In May 1916 the entire Hentig Niedenmyer mission, knowing Chinese sympathy, leaves Afghanistan for China (OTL only Hentig went to China)

This mission stays in western China with the sympathy of the Chinese government uses this area as a base and attempts to cause mayhem in the southern Muslim regions of Russia which is currently revolting. With the assistance of the mission these revolts are more successfull than OTL.

Russian forces raid into China to try end end this Hentig problem once and for all. China declares war on November 14th, Britain, France and Japan all declare war on China on November 15th 1916....

What happens next?

I think that Japan and Russia would quickly invade Manchuria and crush any Chinese forces in the area. Also I think that the Russia will make good progress in Western China. The French might push North from Indochinain they have the troops and along with the British might take some ports. basically China is quickly overpowered and forced to make peace. Although this might make the War on the Western front longer. It might also accelerate the fall of the Tsar.

That is probably the best case for China and Central Powers, with the Czar falling earlier, before the Germans do unrestricted submarine warfare, the Germans feel things are going their way, don't do unrestricted submarine warfare, Communist revolution occurs just the same, perhaps earlier, but without the USA in the war when the Germans do their OTL February March 1918 Russia offensive, don't bother with terms but just keep advancing hoping to take down the whole rotten place and link up with the Chinese, skipping their whole 1918 western offensive, The Chinese although losing some ports to Japan are still holding out.

I don't think the Germans had the supply system to advance across hostile Russia all the way to China. Also I think that peace on the Eastern Front would the best outcome for Germany so they can focus on the Western Front.

Maybe not the supply system in the classical sense, but in the 1918 eastern front sense maybe, mount a machine gun and a company of troops on a train and see how far you can get, try to liberate some POWS, empower some locals agains the reds and move on. Mabye far fethched still though, maybe best to negotiate transfer rights as part of Brest-Litovosk treaty.

Why? wouldn't a successful war against China strengthen the Tsar's position?

Increased economic strain on Russia and if there is a defeat at the hands of the Chinese or even bein bogged down while the Japanese advanced would gravely damage the Tsar and Russian prestige.
