whats the reason for the UK joining the central powers?

I don't think that important, unless it something to do with East Asia. But lets say that the French does something to piss the British in Morocco, like occupiring the part Spain should have received.

oh okay, was there a chance of france doing that?

It all depends on the POD. I think Japan would probably weigh towards the Central Powers, if the POD isn't too early, but China is more complex.
I'd guess they'd join the side that looked like it was winning (like Italy, so they'd wait a while), if they join at all. That might be the Alliance (that is, the Central Powers), but, then again, it might not.

Well Japan is allied to Britain unless the Anglo-Japanese alliance isn't renewed in ... 1911 or 13 was it ? This might happen if Britain has allied itself with Germany when Japan might begin to see this as some kind of move against themselves

I agree that China will avoid committing for as long as possible until it could think of getting anything out of their declaration

IOTL, Japan entered the way simply to pick off the scattered German colonies. If Britain had been in the Central Powers, they would have been mad to attempt to do this.

I could see a joint British-Japanese attack on French Indochina.

Lets just say that that POD is pretty unlikely. If the French pissed off the British over Morocco they would have just backed German claims - which were legitimate - and the French would have had to face the Germans on the Rhine alone.

Why would Japan attack German colonies if it were in the Central Powers? They would probably want to go after the Russians, and be strongly encouraged to do so. I don't see anyone being very enthusiastic about Japanese attacks on Indochina. But if Britain were in the CP, the war would be over too fast for Japan to accomplish much.
