Chilean-American War

Okay so WI the Baltimore Crisis blew up into war between the US and Chile? Would the US be able to defeat the Chilean navy and invade Chile? If so what would US demands be on Chile. Would the US seek to restore territory lost by Bolivia and Peru?

All I know is, if the big man to the north invades Chile, Bolivia and Peru WILL jump on Chile like a starving wolf on a slab of meat.

The short answer is probably yes. The Chilean Armada is smaller than U.S.
Navy.

The US Navy was just beginning a long overdue buildup that didn't stop until after WWI. This war may way have sparked that buildup to a more rapid pace.

This is after the Chilean Civil War of 1891, so the Chileans IOTL just bent over and paid $75,000 in indemnification to the families of the dead sailors.

Chile is not going to pick a fight after a civil war, so for this you need a more aggressive Benji Harrison.

Problem is that occupation of Chile is rather hard, so maybe naval battles, brief occupation of Valparaiso, new Government in Chile, bigger indemnifications and Harrison is reelected in 1892.

In addition to what has already said consider these points:

1. An earlier US Naval buildup would probably be geared to enforcing the Monroe Doctrine and keeping peace in and around both North and South America. This probably results in an earlier Great White Fleet, albeit one more primitive than OTL. However this fleet will be more than ready for the Spanish American War. That being said, a more ambitious naval building program will be needed to replace them when they become obsolete in the years leading up to WWI.

2. The Monroe Doctrine probably gets modified in TTL earlier, in regards to Latin America. Perhaps you have a Harrison Corollary instead of a Roosevelt Corollary in OTL due to his intervention in Chile.

3. The election of 1892 was shockingly close with Cleveland winning by a mere 3% of the popular vote. A victorious intervention in Chile could be played up by the GOP to see Harrison win a second term over Cleveland. Better yet, the possibility remains that the strong showing of the Populist Party could throw the election to Congress...

The first thing I thought after seeing the title :

Chile against the rest of America ? poor Chile ...

My second thought :

Those pesky ASBs, moving Chile to Asia ... ;)

Now on topic:

Frankly almost ASB, although If said ship blows mysteriously in the Valparaiso port ...
