The day before Taiwan's 2004 presidential election, president Chen Shui-bian and vice president Annette Lu were attacked by a gunman while campaigning in Taiwan. Both suffered only minor injuries, and went on to win the election. The accused shooter committed suicide after the attack, and his motives seemed to be nonpolitical.
So what if the assassin had used better guns (apparently the one he used was homemade) and managed to kill Chen and Lu? How would this affect Taiwanese politics? Would the election be delayed, and who would replace the two on the DPP ticket?
