Chemical Weapons Used in World War II

What if chemical weapons had been used by both sides widely in World War II? What would be its effects?
More death, probably. I doubt it would change the outcome of the war, or even its length, by all that much. All you'd have is a lot more death, and probably a much stronger willingness by all countries to fully agree to never let such weapons be used again afterwards.

This topic has been raised before.

In the Pacific, this would be a massive gain for the Allies. Adding chemical agents to the allied arsenal would only contribute to the destruction of Japan, and the Japanese would be unable to supply their troops with defenses against chemical attack.

The Soviets would probably get a bit more screwed than Germany would on the Eastern Front, but the really nasty point is that Germany is getting bombed to hell and adding in chemicals is going to make it even worse. Besides, the UK had anthrax to respond with.

The US kept chemical weapons in the event the "other side" violated the Geneva convention and used them. Germany would not use them because of the implications of air-delivered US retaliations on civilians. The US would not use them because it would open up the door for retaliation on the battlefield.

As Blue Max said, the Brits had anthrax and the prevailing winds would be most unfavorable to Europe.
