Charleston SC, hub of American Jewry

till 1830 Charleston, South Carolina had the largest population of Jews in the US, so what if the Ashkenazi German Jews that made up most of the emigration of Jews from 1820-1870 and latter the Eastern European Ashkenazi of 1880-1920, how would history change if Charleston, South Carolina became as Jewish as New York City is today?

Biscuits and gravy would be made with beef rather then pork.
Seriously, many Southern Jews tried to hide the fact they were Jewish and assimilate into mainstream society. Sometimes their Children didn't even know they were Jewish. In modern times Judaism and Jews are one of the few minorities that are not have a population boom, rather a population decrease. I would say that if Jews had hit Charleston instead of New York Jews would have been having that decrease since before the civil war. We would be only a few guys with funny hats in the US and be about as in the margins as the Amish.
