Charles James, eldest son of Charles I lives.

So, looking through the list of children that Charles I and Henrietta Maria had, I noticed that their firstborn son was named Charles James, and was born in 1629, but died shortly afterwards. My query is twofold, firstly had he survived, and otl Charles II had been born a year later, would he have been named James instead? And then otl James II named Henry etc?

Secondly, assuming that Charles James lives, would it be plausible to see him married to Louise Henriette the otl wife of the Great Elector of Brandeburg, as part of a strategic alliance between England and the Dutch against Spain perhaps? if so, who might ttl James and Henry marry?

Makes sense. What name would be left for OTL Henry? Robert?

What's the context here? I doubt the existence of Charles James averts the civil war, and by the time he's of marriageable age won't that be in full swing (and frustrate any marriage plans)? Unless you're angling for a pre-civil war betrothal or really early marriage?

Would such a marriage take the place of OTL's Mary/William II of Orange match?

Otl Henry, perhaps Robert or Alexander?

And, I'm considering either a pre civil war betrothal, or a potential marriage after either success in the civil war or a restoration happening in the early 1650s, following Cromwell and Fairfax's deaths.

Robert was in more recent use. It's been a while since the Stuarts had an Alexander.

She'd be approaching her mid-20s by the early 1650s, would she still be unmarried by that point? Maybe if they come to some sort of "understanding" whilst Charles James is in exile?

I think one of the other two options work better- though if we're talking success in the civil war then Mary/William II has already happened, and would Charles go for 2 kids with Dutch marriages?

This is very true. Robert it is then.

And hmm, this is true otl she was married by 1646, so unless Charles I has won the civil war by then, I don't think she'd be on the cards.

Re the other two options, those being pr civil war betrothal and a restoration in the 1650s right-sorry just wanting to be sure-

And, I don't think he would you know, I think he might go for someone who'd produce a large dowry, perhaps Catherine of Braganza or her sister.

You can not know about names. For me OTL Henry can be called with any of this names: Robert, Alexander, David, William, John, Edward or George

I think either Robert or William make the most sense, Robert due to the ties back to Robert the Bruce, and also Charles I's short lived brother.

For me also are the most logical choices but all the other names have still good ties to the dynasty (excluding George but that would be for the saint)

Agreed. A potential restoration taking place in the 1650s would be quite interesting I think, for the consequences.
