So, a thought came to me after a convo with a friend at the pub. In 1649, Charles I was executed and the monarchy abolished, Cromwell soon became Lord Protector and the greatest dictatorship England and the isles has ever known came into being.

Now, let's say in 1648, both Charles and Cromwell die. Charles is poisoned and Cromwell is assasinated. What changes here? Fairfax is now the more dominant of the Roundheads and army generals, Charles II is now the rightful King. Is there some sort of agreement or is there still a republic declared?

Personally, I think Fairfax might try and work with Charles and establish some sort of agreement to end the war and bring harmony back into the country.

Thoughts?
