Charles I and Cromwell die in 1648

They will take the chance on Charles II, almost certainly. Then you need to see them go overboard and have people get tired of them, have Charles II act to throw them off (probably with the cooperation of some of the more moderate parliamentarians and/or soldiers, like Fairfax) and succeed. That second part is where not having Cromwell around would be advantageous.

Definitely agreed there. I imagine Manchester and Essex would be leading Parliamentarians on the regency council, which likely means they're the ones who will keep pushing and pushing until they overplay their hand and people like Fairfax, perhaps Ireton as well come to support Charles and him removing the regency.

On more thoughts on this should Charles I die at nasebh alongside Cromwell would either side really be willing to accept peace? Royalists won’t want parliamentarians bear their king will they? And parliamentarians won’t want royalists bear Charles
