Not sure if this has been asked before, so my apologies if it has. Charles, Duke of Berry was the third and youngest son of Le Grand Dauphin, and was thought to be the regent for his nephew Louis XV when his older brother died, however, he died before his nephew succeeded to the throne. What would have happened had he survived? At the time of his death he had no surviving issue, and it is said he had taken a mistress. If he survives, and Louis XIV still dies as otl, I would presume that Berry would serve as his nephew's regent, thus diminishing Orleans influence somewhat. What sort of policies could Berry pursue? Would Philip V still look to ensure his rights to France, in this event? To make things more interesting let's say that his wife dies giving birth to their daughter who also dies. The Duke is now single, who might be considered suitable as a bride for him?
