Chappaquiddick +2

WI Chappaquiddick had taken place a day or two later? Would EMK have been completely sunk? Since the 40th anniv. is next week...

If it had been two days later, it would have eclipsed Apollo 11 in the news cycle, and his "Dem Checkers" speech might not have worked, forcing him out...

One of the more interesting what ifs concerns the way Mary Jo died. It was assumed at the time that she had drowned. It was only years later that it was learned that she likely suffocated after hours in an air pocket. All Teddy had to do was to make a phone call to the sherrif's office and she would have been gotten out within twenty five minutes. Teddy obviously declined to inform law enforcement of the accident.

Now if people were aware that Teddy Kennedy had left a young woman to die to cover his only political ass, I don't care what the 1960s Kennedy mystique was, he would have gone to jail for a long time.

As it was the mystique was shattered instantly, though it took Carter of all people to show it. Then began the rapid decline that still manifests itself today. Except for Caroline, the rest have long criminal records and some even rival Nancy Pelosi for the leadership of the Democratic left...

Long criminal records ?

Since some of them are congressmen/senators...er? Isn't Bobby Jnr for example a congressman ?

Yes- Patrick was the one who was DUI and slammed into a concrete barrier near the Capitol at 1 AM in '06. Now in AA. Joe II, RFK's eldest son, was a congressman for a while in the early nineties. Many other things- just Google it and you'll see. Now, when I referred to competition to Pelosi, I was referring to RFK Jr. Two felonies- drug possession and trespassing on a defense installation, accusing George Bush of Marcosian electoral fraud in 2004 on one of those flaky left sites "Was the 2004 election stolen", basically the voting machine theory- the vaccine business and a whole bunch of ridiculous nonsense. Outside the nutty conspiracy theories- basically Pelosi's ideological clone. This is all available on a quick google- the electoral fraud article link is at the bottom of US presidential election, 2004.

No. Pelosi was willing to not criticize Bush. RFK Jr. did. JFK Jr. had a mostly clean record (except for bad judgement in flying, tragically...). And, while he still held the Liberal torch, he was willing to interview Conservatives and give them a fair hearing for George.

Another interesting point- JFK's branch seems to be in the Democratic mainstream. Not so for RFK's branch. Even more so when Hillary split the Kennedys along those lines during the recent campaign. Though it was important to get the left in her pocket, which was a mistake- she didn't need them to win the nomination, just better strategic/financial planning relating to caucuses. Nancy Pelosi is the leader of the Democratic left however. Since RFK Jr is a "civilian", I can't say it's a co-leadership...
