Change Illinois Politics

I was wonder how people could change Illinois politics so that we wouldn't be politically corrupt as much. I, right now, have three different ways:

1: Prohibition never happens which means no evil person like Al Capone turns most of Chicago politicans corrupt.

2: Chicago ceases to exist which should shift out the bad politicans.

3: The green party canadate won the 2006 election for governor. Because of that messed up election, the green party is now an official party in this state.

Post your ideas, comments, and suggestions.

Does this need to be in ASB? I never now exactly where each thing should go.

I think corruption and politics go together - of course that depends on what you define as corruption. The 'Chicago ceases to exist' option just doesn't work. The city has rebounded from both a devastating fire and flood. Capone didn't 'turn' Chicago politicians corrupt, as if he was a vampire. There is a whole host of things since Chicago has been such an important city for so long.

In the early twentieth century, practically every major city had a "political machine" running it, controlling the mayors, councils, etc. By WWII, most cities moved away from that system. Chicago, though, with Mayor Richard J. Daley, kept the tradition going into the seventies. Hence, they have a "modernized" machine. That's why Chicago is different from other cities.

Those who can survive the system and make it to governor are, unfortunately, too well seasoned to the Chicago patronage system.

Not just cities have corruption, it should be noted.

Back in the Gilded Age, Southern Illinois (rural) and Indiana (rural) were seen as the easiest places to buy votes (soap).

The Green Party is official in Illinois, at least for now, because Whitney won more than 10% of the vote in 2006. This last ballot was required to have a Green slot for every office, most of which read "NO CANDIDATE", which shows, I think, that they are not a serious party. They run candidates for high-profile offices but have no organization whatsoever at the local level.

And while I wish Whitney had won (I voted for him), he would not have changed a century-and-a-half-old system of dirty politics overnight.

Generally the end of no bid contracts?

Politics are generally agreed in backroom deals thus this is very open to corruption etc. American politics is full of nepotism just like so many other countries. Illinois is just one example, which the prosecutors caught. I wouldn’t be surprised if all states had quite a few people diverting funds away from the public good....
