Champlain Doesn't Attack The Iroquis

In the early days of New France Samuel Champlain determined to join with the Huron and other native tribes in a series of attacks on the Iroquis.

As a result the Iroquis held a grudge until the end of New France and managed to inflict major losses on the French colonists over a period of decades.

Given that the Iroquis displayed a clear and consistent interest in trade the old argument that only the Huron could provide the furs desired is pretty much discredited, indeed, the amount that the Iroquis could and did sell the English, Dutch and even the French was quite impressive.

So...what if Champlain refuses to support the attacks on the Iroquis and New France is spared decades of fighting to come?

Interesting take...

If New France does not attack the Iroquis Confederation then I can see the following effects:
1) much larger (numbers wise) Iroquis
2) Settlement of New France spreading from the St. Lawrence valley along the south shore of the Great Lakes (and Lake Champlain) to the upper waters of the Mississippi where a new inland trade settlement works to help buffer the Iroquis from their native counterparts.
3) A much greater acceptance of mixed race marriges leading to earlier voting rights for natives.
4) problems in the future with missionaries heading out telling the natives to conform to christianity. This will spark conflict (and still does on reserves today) which could lead to some interesting discussions on legal rights.
5) a larger manpower pool that could be much more effective on defensive (when dealing with Britian).

Probably the most important effect of a French alliance with the Iroquois would be persistent Iroquois raids on the Dutch and British colonies. If you're looking to wank New France, then a war between Britain or the Netherlands and France with the Iroquois on the French side could lead to some French gains in New England. Perhaps a successful French/Iroquois attack on New Amsterdam/New York?

Also, the Huron would be exterminated earlier than in OTL. This might lead to the Iroquois taking over the fur trade in the Canadian shield.

Well, in OTL the French were more unwilling to give guns to their native allies then the British or Dutch were, which is one of the reasons the Iriqouis did so much better then the Huron. It all readlly depends on how the other tribes and European powers change. Its really too complicated a question to simply answer in any direct way.

The Iriqouis in this timeline will probably get hit by diseases earlier. However, I'd honestly expect them to have a better chance of being powerful then in OTL ,now that their main competition in the upper Ohio Valley is gone. As long as the French continue to support them, and the British/Dutch/Spanish/whoever don't manage to get a rival tribe in the south (or nearby as the case maybe) against them they should do pretty good.

Definitely puts a major plug on British expansion westward, now that the Ohio valley is much more dangerous. The Iriqouis were able to depopulate it mostly in OTL, I'm not sure whether they will be able to in this TL.

Sorry I can't be less vague, theres a huge number of groups to think about here. Might give it some more thought & research.
