Challenge: What was Habsburg once will be Habsburg again

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to regain the Spanish crown for the House of Habsburg by 1750 with a POD after the Treaty of Utrecht.

Well one way is to have Philip V and his young family assassinated (by whom I don't know, perhaps Catalan Separatists?) before the Austrians and French sign the Treaties of Rastatt and Baden. This in effect levels the Bourbon male line and leaves Charles as the only real contended to the throne.

Not if this guy is still around.

Ah but he technically abdicated all rights to the Spanish throne with the Treaty of Utrecht, so the Austrians will claim he has no right to the throne and the French will attempt to push it. Now does he die still in 1714? I don't know but if he does then there really isn't anyone left that isn't in direct line and while the English and Dutch might not want a reunited Habsburg Monarchy, it is preferable to a united Franco-Spanish Bourbon Monarchy. In either case the Succession War will flare up again, it just depends on who the belligerents are.

Goddamn French royal family and their 3576937 Louises, I had to look up again which damn Louis it was...

Anyways, if the future Louis XV of France dies in 1712 of the measle epidemy that also killed his parents and his brother, then the Bourbon main line is at an end, and the Spanish line and the Orleans line would have conflicting claims on the throne. Alternatively of course, and to meet the time requirements of the OP, this also can happen some years later as long as that Louis has no legitimate issue himself yet. As he was 4 at that time, that gives quite a large area of time...

Since still absolutely nobody is interested in an united France and Spain in the ensuing conflict Habsburg could well end up with Spain - say for example by being allied to Philip V who would be more than compensated with France.
