Challenge US Votes itself out of WW1

The challenge is to create a situation where the US is at some stage involved in something closely resembly OTL's WW1 and where opposition is strong enough that, following an election between 1912 and 1924 the US leaves the war.

Obviously this challenge does allow you to somewhat change the dates of WW1 and although this is in the post 1900 forum you are allowed to have pods back to say 1890.

Taft elected in 1912. Italy joining the Central Powers. Early German implementation of unrestricted submarine warfare. The Irish revolution gets an early start with the UK exercicizing a heavy hand in suppressing the Irish. Taft declares war on Germany and institutes draft. Draft riots and strikes impede war effort. Taft orders US Army to fire on striking workers. Wilson campaigns on Peace Now platform in 1916. Wilson elected and first act is to seek a unilateral armistice with the Central Powers.

To get Taft elected IMO, you'd need to have him the disciple of TR in his first presidency. That way the Republicans aren't split.
