Challenge: United Christianity

Goal: Unification of the Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox Churches in their entirety
POD limitations: After the 2nd Council of Lyon (1272-74)
Available time: By 1500

Αny attempt to unite Churches after 1204 was doomed to fail... Orthodox people and clergy wouldnt accept any terms dictated by the Pope...

MASSIVE "uniate church"-wank occuring a century eariler just after the Union of Krewo. Perhaps a different Jogilla - Jadwiga marriage with Jogailla converting to orthodoxy before marrying Jadwiga and either him or his successors placing the orthodox under the "protection" of the pope - and going from there, with the Patriarchy being dissolved at some point in the future. Still, it would take longer that until 1500.

The only way this could be done is to have a POD around 25 CE, making the apostles stay together and keeping a united church of Rome.

The Ottoman Empire conquers Rome between 1450-1480, and re-unites the Churches for easier administration?

Alternatively, the Pope somehow conquers Constantinople and decides to unite the Churches by force.

EDIT: That really doesn't stop the Pope popping up in France or the Patriarch popping up in Russia though.

Remember Michael VIII and Patriarch John XI who tried to impose the union of the Churches to the clergy and the people... Michael VIII died excommunicated and his successor was forced to bury him outside the city and John XI was exiled in Prusa after being forced to denounce the union... Any attempt after 1204 isnt viable... (at least the orthodoxs wouldnt accept any deal that would make eastern Church subordinate to the Papacy)

Nicean Creed ".......one holy catholic (universal) and apolstolic church."

Mostly what is needed is an agreement on what I like to call a "common communion". Something I see happening in the Western Church with in 25 to 30 years.
