Challenge:Three Eagles alliance

The challenge is to create a treaty of alliance between Russia, the USA, and Germany by the early 1900's.

My idea is the cliche "confederacy wins with british and french help" scenario, but the US goes out of its way to be friendly with europe's only pro-union power:Russia. Eventually, you get the treaty between Russia and Germany under Bismarck which draws the USA in after a while.

My guess is that the reason for the alliance would be expansion. USA gets the monroe doctrine agreed to by the others, Germany gets Mitteleuropa and more colonies in Africa, and Russia gets a free hand in Asia and some influence over slavic east europe.

Any other ideas?

The only way to do this is if the Confederates win or at least if Russia comes in on the Union side and they win.

My advice: Read Britannia's Fist by Peter G Tsouras.

Russia was always a friend of the USA in the early days. Russia supported (somehow...) the USA in the ARW. In the Civil War the Russians helped in the General Staff of the USA IIRC. Selling Alaska was a sign of friendship.
Germany and Russia could ally as part of Bismark's counter-encirclement plan. Transitive postulate, Germany and the US are friendly.
Russia's economy could be more industrialised with the help of America (investment, that is).
The straining points would be over the un-democtaticness of Germany and Russia compared to the US and the exact division of Eastern Europe between Russia and Germany.

You are right that the undemoctratic tradition in Russia and Germany would be a problem, but if the US is really desperate for allies against Britain, France, and the Confederacy then I think it would brush those concerns underneath the table. After all, their enemies would be democracies so that kind of stops being a qualifier doesn't it?

As for the division of Eastern europe, I think that it would probably be Austria and the Czech Republic to Germany with Russian claims on parts of Romania honored. I think they would both foster independant states in the Balkans after the fall of A-H, Serbia and Bulgaria under Russian influence, a Croat state and Hungary under German influence, etc.

How would this have affected WW1 though? What nations would join them against the British-French-Confederate Entente? What nations would join the Entente against them? How would strategy change the war in that scenario?
@ Checkmate: I have never heard of that book. Is it any good? or are you just referencing it because of Russian actions being similar to what I was laying out?

Way back POD...German blood becomes mixed with Russian Tsar genes. Eventually, the Tsar is mostly German in descent and opens friedleiness woth Germany.

Meanwhile, the Civil War goes as planned. America buys Alaska at a higher price and sees an oppurtinity for an alliance in Europe.

WWI breaks out in the Franco-Prussian War. England comes to France's aid,Austria-Hungary with Germany,Russia and America too. They win.

well you could have Prussia focus on Western Europe and colonies rather than Eastern Europe. Then have Russia focus on Industrialization rather than expanding. Have the USA elect someone similar in charcter to TR who would demand revenge on G.B, France and the CSA. This makes him realize that the enemy of my enemies is my friend, and you have the German, Russian American alliance :D :D

This is what happened IOTL. Nicholas had 63/64 German blood, if one believes official version of Pavel I's paternity. It did not prevent Romanovs from being as Russian as balalaika.

Speaking about OP, at first I thought that 3rd Eagle (beside Russian and Prussian) is Austro-Hungarian, but American eagle is even easier to do (no perennial conflict of interests with Russia). Russo-German split of late 19th century happened almost by accident. Would Germans continue to bankroll Russian industrialization (instead of basically pushing Russia into French arms), both countries would continue to be the best friends (possibly even at Austrian expense) Make French more brash during their Mexican enterprise (therefore straining French-American relationships more than IOTL) and Britons more hostile to runaway colony (isn't easy, but hey, Clio created even weirder situations), and bingo.
