Challenge: The Japanese SSR

This time your challenge is having all of Japan being part of the USSR...or at least Hokkaido, Honshu and Kyushu.

How to do this?

And what do you think might be the consequences? Might the Soviet Union survive? Fall apart earlier? Overtake the US as the world's largest economy?

Japan as a soviet republic is easy. The Southern Islands in the deal are hard.

Easy, US and USSR invade instead of dropping the bomb (the whole "millions will die thanks to every Japanese person fighting back so thank God for that nuke" is bupkis since the Japanese civilians were not as fanatical or suicidal as the US propaganda said and I'm just going to outright declare that there wouldn't have been any mass resistance. Sort of like that giant Werewolf movement that was supposed to lead ot quagmire in Germany that never accounted for that many Germans let alone a mass movement.), divide the nation ala Germany or Korea. North Japan, South Japan.

Hard...I don't know.

its possible just let the americans have germany and you get japan

Why would the US want to allow the USSR to invade/administer Japan after the US was at war with Japan for 3.5+ years and the USSR wasn't. One of the reasons for the A-bombing was to force Japan's surrender before the Russians could invade too far. It may be possible for a divided Japan-but not a Japan wholly controlled by the USSR.

Besides, the USSR wanted their pound of flesh from Germany. And there was much more of interest in occupying Germany than Japan (more and better industry to take over plus the various German scientists).

For a Japanese SSR? Well, or the Russians manage to overwhelm Japan during the Russo-Japanese War and make a protectorate of it, and the Japanese Archipelago is touched by the Revolution in the last years of the Russian Civil War; or the Americans are forced to slow down their advance in the Pacific (defeat in Okinawa and Iwo Jima? Harsh Japanese resistance in the Philippines?), or Roosevelt lose the elections or picked a different running mate in the 1944 elections, thus the new President is not willing to use the atomic bomb, or decide to go for the reconquest of continental Asia instead. Letting the Americans liberate China, the Red Army invade Japan itself. But in this case, they would have better make a puppet People's Republic with it.

Guys

Possibly the most likely way is that the army gets its way with a war against SU in 1939/40 onwards. [Stupid of them but say local forces take the initiative as they did a few times]. Long and bloody war against the SU which is extended greatly when Hitler invades from the west. Hence no Pacific war and possibly no US military involvement in the conflict. A very long war before the Axis is defeated and Stalin completes the conquest of Japan say in ~47-48, establishing a Japanese SSR to ensure he has control over the region.
