Challenge:Taiping Rebellion "succeeds"

The thread title says it all. How could the Taiping rebellion succeed, and what would the result of it's success be? Could he perhaps elicit foreign support to somehow overthrow the Qing? And if not, is a more limited success possible, with perhaps a divided China emerging?

What would the effect of this be on the world at large?

And I have just realized that I placed this in the incorrect forum. Could someone please move this to BEFORE 1900? :)

PM the mod about it.

As to the question: you will probably get a dozen parrots yelling about how China is screwed beyond all repair and will never bounce back, which I do not believe the case. China has been through far worse (Three kingdoms, Mongols, etc) and remains intact. I think if Hong had been a little less... insane, then he could have created a more stable, longer-lasting state. Not all of his policies were bad.

Yes, I was going to say Hong Xiuqan having a bit of a better grip on the practical realities of ruling might have helped :)
