Challenge: successful execution of neoconservative doctrine

another problem, which is certainly not unique to neoconservatism, is that the neocon planners let what they wanted to be true dictate their plans (ie we'll be greeted as liberators and the war will pay for itself), and plans based on wishful - or even optimistic - thinking rarely succeed.

The only way that Neoconservatives not to be discredited would be to start small. JUST go into Afghanistan like in OTL, and then ramp up manpower and development efforts.

MAYBE, maybe, back a version of the coup attempt of Equatorial Guinea in 2004. I mean, it's a small country run by a corrupt government that doesn't border any major power. With four years of planning it should be a cakewalk, right?

'Democracy'

The problem is, the Americans try to export Democracy to these countries. But generally what it means is, they have Elections and other colourful things that look nice. They don't become Democratic or Liberal societies. Democracy, by it's very definition must be embraced by people themselves, it is cheapened if it's been done for you. To quote Tony Benn "What sort of South Africa would exist now if we had bombed Pretoria?"

The problem is whether the rose-tinted notion that the removal of a dictator leads to everyone holding hands and singing, thus not requiring many occupation troops or a plan, was purely a fantasy of Rumsfeld or if it is something integral to neoconservatism of a whole. In the former case it could be avoided, the latter would be more difficult.

It may or may not be integral to neoconservatism, but, judging from their long list of disasters, it is integral to the Bush administration.

It could have happened if during the invasion of Iraq more troops were sent and the Iraqi army was not disbanded. Also it could have happened if the US intervened in the Sudan to liberate Darfur. The enemy would be less as strong for one thing.

More troops from... where, exactly?

I execute you and you work better !

Its funny, I read the title and then read the original post thinking "This is the exact opposite of the title". So I reread the title and realised I had seen "execution" to mean killing, and then forgotten what the word actually was, had then thought the title was "successfully getting rid of the doctrine" which WAS the opposite of Thande's use of 'execution' meaning the putting in to action of the doctrine

Most curious, n'est-ce-pas ?
