Challenge: Rio de la Plata survives

Red Horse

Give any POD that would have the United Provinces of Rio de la Plata intact and stable.

I think the reason that the United Provinces failed (and I think for similar reasons why the later Argentine Confederation failed) was because of disagreements of how the country was run and who should run it. But the Argentine Civil Wars over the course of the 19th century were really messy and convoluted so I can't give a straight answer.

we just went through this last week.

United Provinces was basically a working title (they declared for independence, but virtually nothing was defined), and many simply substitute the name Argentina. All they lost was Uruguay, and that was because the portenos urged Luso-Brazil to take Artigas off their hands. Beyond that, they went through a bunch of pseudo civil wars (more like various power factions struggling to take control and define what the country was to be) until they finally stabilized as Argentina.
