challenge: Restore the Hohenzollern monarchy in Germany in 1945

Stalin's 'neutral Germany' proposal is accepted.
Both Soviets and Wallies start working to keep the other from influencing the newly created neutral Germany in 1949 too much.
Wallies come up with the idea of getting Louis Ferdinand (son of ailing Wilhelm III, who will die in 1951) to assume the throne of a new, peaceful Reich that has no territorial claims but makes Germany a respectable constitutional monarchy. Louis Ferdinand, as a very young man, is ideal in this role.
German people vote on it and it narrowly passes.
Hohenzollern Germany by 1955.

Possibly ASB (Stalin's proposal being accepted is pretty dodgy anyway), but it's a shot.

POD 1944

...a successful Stauffenberg-plot manages to make peace before Germany collapses completely. The search for a new constitutional order finally ends up with a monarch on top.

I'd think you'd need them working against the Nazis during the war.
Have Willhem and co head to London before the Netherlands are overran and make speeches denouncing the evil of the Nazis and urging non-compliance, etc...

Having them turn anti-Nazi would help restoration a lot; it is also not completely impossible given the fact that the Hohenzollerns did not seem overly fond of the Nazis (Wilhelm II disowned one of his sons for joining them). It also might help to have Wilhelm II die a little sooner; the Allies will never seriously consider restoration while he is alive.

What about having the July Plot succeed and have a German Civil War break out between the Wehrmacht and the SS? One of the Hohenzollern princes is elected King of Free Germany or something like that by the Wehrmacht and leads them to fight against the SS alongside the Allies.
