Challenge, RAAF ace.

That's petty much what I was thinking. But we'd have to do a fair bit of air to air work because otherwise it's too much of a fluke.

Have Stafford Cripps die, ideally of an agonisingly painful and embarrassing disease, along with anyone else in the Labour Party who thought giving the RR Nene, Derwent and assorted metallurgical advice to the Soviets was a good idea.

Lacking any decent engines the Soviet jets over Korea (MiG-9s with some of those awful indigenous Soviet engines?) have far worse performance and so the RAAF Meteors are able to dominate, one of the pilots eventually becoming an ace.

Not to old to bump.

The Commanders of British Commonwealth Occupation Forces (BCOF) Japan/British Commonwealth Forces Korea were all Australian Generals, from 1946 to 1954. These Generals exercised no operational command, the 1st Commonwealth division was commanded by a British General under a US Corps, the RN/RAN/RCN ships were under US command as was 77sqn RAAF. However these Aussie Generals as national AND Commonwealth commanders did exercise some perogatives. They held understrength 3RAR back from the early fighting despite commiting a RAN frigate and 77sqn, advised Macarthur not to rescue 1st Bth Gloschester regt after the Battle of Imijn River and put Canadains to gaurd PoWs without informing Canada.

I think that it well within this scope, and even within character, for this commander (Gen Horace Robertson) to demand that 77sqn do some air to air training with Sabres before heading into battle, and demanding that Meteors be given missions commensurate with their performance and that of their enemy Migs.

I think this would seriously alter the course of 77sqn's war in Korea, giving them a reasonable showing from the start and possibly be the PoD for an Australiawank on a budget. (budgetwanks being my favourite kind of country wanks)

Wouldn't it just be easier to have the fairly incompetent looking Australian Generals of BCOF replaced by competent ones? From that list they do appear to have got everything wrong, so it seems a bit of a stretch for them to make a correct decision.

How do you figure Robertson did everything wrong? Is it correct to send an understrength battalion into a beseiged perimeter to be needlessly lost? Is it correct to risk massive casualties to save a battatlion?

Maybe Bridgeford could have informed Canada before putting their troops on PoW gaurd duty, but then again Canada put their troops under BCFK command and a command decision was made. Would the US have consulted Canada first if their forces were in a US division?
