I think he's talking about an alternate Prince William, born in the early to mid 70's.
Anyhow, I've got an easier way-wasn't there an assasination attempt on the Queen sometime in the early to mid 80's, when she was at the Trooping Of The Colour? I vaguely remember hearing about it-can't remember when it was though. Asuming it took place after Charles married Dianna, is there any way the attempt could succeed ITTL?
I'm happy to be corrected by someone who knows more about this than I do, but I'm asuming it's almost impossible for the attempt to work because of the level of security not only at these events but around the Queen in general.
If the assasination attempt works though, it'd be hard to avoid 'Queen Dianna' if everything else pans out IOTL until then.
Well, if it did work, it would have a lot more effects than just King Charles III and Queen Diana. Whomever made the attempt would get a very,
very serious backlash from, like, all of Britain, and a very large part of Ireland, plus most of the Commonwealth.
If it was someone affiliated with the IRA, there's a possibility that some of the money involved might have come from NORAID, which is going to impact US/UK relations ("You want us to remain Airstrip One, you bloody well
shut down those bastards!"). Even if no US money was involved, Anglo-Irish relations will take a downturn, and Irish government/IRA relations will take a nosedive ('severe crackdown' is likely an understatement).
The headlines are likely to be... interesting (Can you imagine what
The Sun would have to say?), no matter who performed and sponsored the attck. On a fairly minor note, 'Doctor Who' will probably take a different path.
