After WWI, after turning down a position
Truppenamt, Rommel decides it best if he moves to America. He becomes an engineer, and serves in various engineer regiments throughout the 20s. In 1932, he had reached a very high rank, and alongside Patton served under General MacArthur, and together they dispersed the "Bonus Army". This incident convinced them that the Democratic government was not going to end well. After quitting the Army, both went into politics, Patton going on the become the governor of New York, and Rommel the governor of Tennessee.
By the 1940 election, they had gained enough political experience to run on the Republican ticket, and won. America stayed isolationist, and Pearl Harbor never happened.

Note, the above is ASB. Rommel would have to be born in America, and Patton probably wouldn't leave the military, nor Rommel Germany. Nor, I think, would they be elected in 1940. But whatever, I successfully passed the time
