I'm pretty sure he is too liberal from an early age for the US. The only real way I'm pretty sure is if he moves further towards the center.

You're going to have to majorly move US politics in order for Chomsky to move his own. The key is to get them to meet in the middle somewhere.
For Chomsky to give up anarcho-syndicalism and embrace electoral reformist democratic socialism, you're going to need some major changes in American politics. You're going to have to have an actual, viable socialist to social democratic left wing party in the US. How do we do this? I dunno. You didn't specify any specific restrictions on POD, so I'm thinking the best one is to play the Great Depression differently. Have whoever gets in on the Democrat ticket in 32 bumble with the same kind of policies as Hoover, leaving the Depression at its nadir for quite some time.
The AFL gets majorly discredited, and the CIO goes left, and endorses some sort of electoral front between the Communists, the Socialists, and any left-wing Democrats who are convinced that business as usual can't continue, and they end up making a good showing in 36. American politics get's transformed, and quickly the Republican party get's knocked out by Duverger's law.
Some unspecified amount of time later, Chomsky decides to give a run on the social democratic party, and in an upset, wins the nomination, taps into baby-boomer political radicalism and wins the White House somewhere between 68 and 80.
