Challenge: POTUS Martin Luther King

I'd say this is ASB, because MLK had taken a sharp left turn IOTL in order to avoid being usurped by the Black Power movement such as Carmichael. Unelectable as a Dem, despite an ASB scenario posited where MLK becomes VP-elect for RFK in '72, then immediately following we have the OTL assassination four years later. ASB, and unoriginal.

MLK has one option (aside from not getting shot).

He would have to win a Congressional seat from Georgia in the 70's.

He would then need to develop a moderate track record on domestic and foreign issues. Indeed he would have to be a leader on issues outside of civil rights.

If he can parlay that record into statwide popularity, then he could try for Governor of Georgia in the 80's. Then he might be able to run for President in the 1988-1996 time frame.

After 1996 he will start getting too old.
