Challenge: POTUS George Wallace (D-AL)

After the JFK assassination, LBJ names George Wallace as his new VP. LBJ then dies of a heart attack when he figures out how stupid such a move was, and George Wallace becomes the new POTUS. :)

Would that work?:p

That's about the only way, baring some devilish political maneuvers that end up taking RFK, LBJ, HHH and a few others out of contention for the nomination in '64 or '68. Also, Johnson did not have a VP for the balance of his (Kennedy's) 1st term and there's little chance that Johnson would nominate Wallace for VP at the '64 convention - though politics has produced stranger bedfellows.

I agree that Wallace being elected is probably ASB. Lyndon Johnson had two contenders for Vice President in 1964: Robert Kennedy and Hubert Humphrey. Two of Lyndon's conditions were that the nominee "have his pecker in my pocket" and "kiss my ass in Macy's window and say it smells like roses". Therefore, HHH by default. ;) But if Rocky is nominated, LBJ will have to ask Bobby, even though odds of acceptance are no better than 50-50. HHH is not as loathed in the South as RFK, though the South is more valuable as a unifying symbol. Lyndon can lose every Southern state except Texas and still win a landslide.
