Challenge: One flag over Hispaniola

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to have a single country rule the entire island of Hispaniola by the present day with a POD no earlier than 1850, be that country Haiti, France, Spain, the United States, the Confederacy, or whoever else.

I think it would be interesting to have Haiti rule the entire nation. However, the best way to do so is beyond the O.P. ime frame limitations, as Haitian control of the Eastern part of the island ended in 1844, six years before 1850.

(Slightly) Off-topic: By the way, I d' like to read something (in Spanish, French or English) about the life in what's now the Dominican Republic under the Haitian rule. I don't think this period gets enough attention: we have a French colony whose slaves not only rebel and form and independent state, but also expand into a neighbouring Spanish colony and free their slaves. Wikipedia says many Dominican whites left, but many must have remained, or we wouldn't have (Hispanic) whites in present day Dominican Republic. Which means that, we did have in OTL, for more than 20 years, in the XIX century (!), a state in which blacks ruled over a multiracial population. Unfortunately I haven't found much information about it. :(

This states had many problems, and eventually failed, but it probably didn't need to end that way. Although in order to create an ATL with a succesfull multiracial and bilingual Haiti comprissing all Hispaniola one would need to now why did it failed IOTL, and what problems did it face...

EDIT: I misread the first post. I thought Dr. Pervez Hoodboy had asked for a Pod after 1850, not before 1850.

Yes, misread the original post. I thought he asked for a Pod after 1850, not before 1850. It's easier then: just have the Haitian control of the Eastern island last longer.

Of course, in order to do so, one would need to now more or less why did this control failed, and how it could have been strenghtened.

In 1795 Spain sold it's colony of Domenico to France, If France holds on to the entire island,
Perhaps Napoleon is not as Racist and allows General L'Ouverture to remain in Charge.

The stated POD says "no earlier than 1850." That means the POD is to be from 1850 ONWARDS, not PRIOR to 1850.
