challenge: military dictatorship in the US

If the Cold War goes badly, sure. There are actually a fair amount of timelines with this, I think. Hopefully other members can provide the names of them.

Wish I could find it, but there was an article about this scenario that came out of the US military professional publications about a decade or so back.

Is this it? Depressing. And the polls are still showing the public has more trust in the military than in most parts of the government.

That sort of confidence will drop DRASTICALLY when they see "military values" in effect shoved into the civilian world in this hypothetical scenario. The US militsary is better at doing civilian governing now than it was say, 10 years and there's plenty of experience from the occupations of Japan and Germany, but I can still see some fuckups when (some) military officers used to bullying and ordering people around come up against a brick wall of "why should I do this" (and yes I know there ARE officers who explain their orders while doing the ordering and other stuff to not piss off their subordinates off). Military leaders =/= politicians, esp in a long term scenario.

If the politicians keep at what they are doing; a miltary coup could result. Its far fetched, but not totally ASB.

After all most ,ilitary coups world over have replaced ineffective and unpopular elected governments.
