Challenge: Mid-Atlantic Union

Your challenge is to create a political group with this same name extending anywhere from Virginia to New York.

This is actually something I've thought about from time to time.

Possible POD's:
-Cresap's War expands, and Virginia and Pennsylvania split Maryland with royal consent. Due to the Pennsylvania colony increasing to a much larger area than the original grant, George II incorporates Delaware officially within PA borders, (as PA administrated the colony until independence anyway.) With two small states off the board, the Constitutional Convention goes in favor of the large states for too long to affect a resolution. Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York unite, and eventually annex New Jersey.

-Colonial operations in Canada go more favorably, and by the end of the war, the US is ceded everything south of the St. Lawrence, plus PEI. This, in turn, also twists the Convention, with the added issue of administering the new territory.

Easier than one might thing over time - the Bos-Wash formed largely naturally, entertwinning much of the region on multiple levels. Even with is just being YorkWash or RichYork or what not, economics and settlement patterns would make the region link together naturally. Plus, it will be a given that they will be the most powerful of the remnant Eastern seabaord. New England has no room to expand, and the South doesn't have the people or the economics for it.

A nation that included New York and Virginia together, let alone Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey, would be the great power of the region - maybe more once they expand into the continental interior. I could see a swath from Tennessee to Wisconsin going to them, and they may even be able to snatch some land across the Mississippi - the core states making up this nation could still liekly afford the Lousiana Purchase or TTL version, and still have the prestige to be offered it.
