Challenge: Make the pope move to Slesvig Holsten

Yes. Avignon won´t do.

Bremen is passable being quite close, but most points will be given for Hedeby;)

Several popes could be fun, but the centre of catholic religion must move north.

Good luck

As long as it's not after the Reformation, it might not be that hard...

Well, it´s not impossible. Although, to be fair at this time, the north is not excactly the center of christianity.

Of course in TTL we might have a protestant south, catholic north.:p

I tried to do a thread about that a while ago...

How about the HRE beats the Danes decisively at some point and assimilates Denmark into its structure, and then after a Pope flees from Rome the Emperor converts Slesvig into an ecclesiastical state for him to set up in? (as with the Avignon situation in OTL)

This would require the HRE itself isn't still leaning on Rome, of course.

Well, the funny thing about that is how the Danish peninsula is sort of like the small retarded clumsy shy brother of the italian peninsula. (I mean they are two opposite peninsulas, one flat, the other with mountains.)

Slesvig, Rome of the north.

on his way to Avignon for a vacation, the Pope's driver gets lost and refuses to ask for directions. comedic chaos ensues, and the Pope finds himself stranded in Slesvig-Holstein.

but to be serious, maybe Protestantism spreads further into Italy (there were Savoyard Protestants IIRC), and it eventually reaches Rome. naturally the Protestants don't want the Pope there, so he flees Rome. at the same time, the Danish kings refuse to convert to Protestantism, and in the chaos in the HRE during the reformation occupy S-H. to increase their prestige, the Danes invite the pope to stay in their country, and he does, winding up in S-H.
