Challenge: Make Ratt survive through the 90's

In the 80's, Ratt were ubiquitous with the rise of Glam Metal. But the ego of Stephen Pearcy coupled with the demise of Robbin Crosby left the once-leading band merely as a nostalgia act.

Bonus points:

If Robbin Crosby cleans up his act.

If you can keep to the classic line up.

If they have a strong album in the 90's (heavier progression akin to Skid Row perhaps?).

Saying this as a huge hair metal fan, for Ratt to thrive in the 90s you'd have to butterfly away the hair metal backlash first, either that or go for a complete overhaul of their sound a la pantera.

I'd they their sound would have to become heavier but retain some of their earlier trademark sound.

The Glam Metal backlash could be avoided with the rise of Thrash; something to keep the bands on their toes so they don't drop any bombs.

Interestingly enough, I've read a few interviews dating from the late 1980s with people like Joe Elliott and Nikki Sixx, and they're often asked for their take on the emerging thrash scene. The impression that I get is that there seemed to be an assumption that thrash was going to be the next big thing in mainstream rock (and, to a certain extent and for a little while, the immense success of Metallica's self-titled album seemed to bear this out).

Perhaps get them to rethink having Bon Jovi guest on one of their albums?

Maybe Detonator could be the 'Slave To The Grind' style album devoid of glossy production yet still retaining melody. Let's say through some method, Robbin enters rehab and returns in time for their assault on the 90's.
