Challenge HREGN and Austria-Hungaria exist at the same time.

From a comment in the thread about martin Luther king's statue.

Your challenge is thus:

You must have the Holy-Roman Empire of the German Nation coexist with a nation that is a union of Austria and Hungary, although doesn't nessecarily have to be called Austria-Hungaria. Bonus points if the Austria-Hungaria is a smaller part of the HREGN.

Go!

Formulated like that I present to you: OTL.

More seriously, the Habsburg monarchy was caleld Austria-Hungary since the Ausgleich in... 186x somewhen. Its not unreasonable to have the Ausgleich occur some decades earlier, and/or to have the HREGN last some decades longer (or idealyl even cneturies longer...)

He said it didn't have to be called Austria-Hungary.

I know. Thats why _I_ answered that for the description as given in the OP you dont need an ATL, you have OTL. However, the thread was based on a comment by Thande how A-H and the HREGN never coexisted, which is technically true, because it was onyl called A-H since the Ausgleich. But with the vague formulation of the OP... thats OTL.

First, did the Austro-Hungarian Empire ever call themselves "Austria-Hungaria?" for that matter, did Hungary ever call themselves Hungaria?

And as others have said, what you postulate is OTL.

This is actually rather easy just have Albert II live into his 60s so that his son would be old enough to take over after his death thus not provoking a succession crisis and he’ll stay on the thrones of Austria, Hungary, and Bohemia. After a couple generations have some calamity beset the union that causes them to formalize the arrangement and since you’ll likely have both Turks and Protestants abound there should be no shortages of opportunities.
