Challenge: HRE

Any way to remake the HRE or at least a state that calls itself the HRE even If it's far more centeralised and the voting has been removed.

Who ever manages to reform the HRE the latest is the winner

I... am really stumped, The Holy Roman Empire, what little I know of it was neither Holy, nor Roman, nor an empire. For it to be recreated in the 20th century... Your sure you wouldn't want to have a go at recreating the CSA? The only thing that springs to mind would be for the German situation post 1945 to be really badly handled and even then its not going to be even a close replica. By the time I've given Germany has already been a country for 74 years and theres been strong support for unification for at least 50 years prior. To me there just seems to be nothing I can think of that would greatly increase support for recreating, what was at best, a hodge podge of micro nations in the center of Europe that spend more time trying to one up each other than achieving anything of value.

That's what I kept getting to. :(

the hre by the time of napoleons invasions and francis dissolution of the hre to secure his own austrian borders was already hereditary, fairly centralised and quite reformed given its state....if you could have francis hold of dissolving it and napoleon still failing, the released member states of the former hre would probaly ally closer with austria and becoming full centralised to curtail any more invasions

Obvious occasions to restore HRE, or the title thereof, would be 1814-1815, 1848...1849 and 1866...1871.

In OTL, the Reich founded in 1871 desisted from calling itself HRE.

IMO, there was no way the Allies after 1945 were going to restore HRE - Germany had been a republic for 26 years, and no one was hot on monarchies. The obvious time to restore HRE would be 1918...1919.

Suppose that Germany 1918...1919 had more support for a constitutional monarchy. The Second Reich had 27 constituent states - 23 monarchies, 3 republics and the imperial territory of Elsass-Lotring.

WI Wilhelm II personally and House of Hohenzollern are discredited enough that Prussia is declared a republic on 9th of November as per OTL, and so are a few of the less popular monarchies like Bavaria - but most of the other constituent states back their monarchs. How would the Weimar assembly decide about the overall Head of State position, and the name of the country?

Could they elect some of the more popular rulers, like King of Saxony or King of Württemberg, as a constitutional monarch, and underline the change to a more limited monarchy than old Reich by recycling the name of HRE?

Yeah I think they could do that

Having the HRE reestablished in 1815 is not difficult - it mainly didn't happen because Emperor Francis II/I was too fed up with his fellow monarches.
Of course, the big problems are getting it to survive alt-1848 and alt-1871 even before you factor in the turn of the century.

A recreation is implausible, but still possible - perhaps an Austro-Bavarian state with a Habsburg at the top, after Germany breaks up during the Interbellum? Maybe as a reaction to Hungary staying red and Germany seemingly on the way to follow up?

I could see some altEU given that name, although that starts to approach asb probabilities.

This would be a conscious evoocation of charlemagnes empire, not the hapsburg one.

Remember that the Empire nominally included italy for a long time.

Having a minor geerman prince marry the daughter of the english king, and be crowned a fiigure head emperor over all europe would be a posssibility.

A german dominated mitteleuropa where germany effecttively ttakkes overr austriiaahuungary might also be possible. Possibly in a cp wiins wwi early tl.
