Challenge: Have San Marino As A Part Of Italy

I imagine it would be rather easy. Just have some Italian power invade and annex the place and when Italy unites it'll be a part of that union.

This is post 1900, italian unification already happened.

Post 1945. I see two ways:

The short lived communist government gets too close to the USSR and italy decides to annex it out of fear of communism spreading, this will create a diplomatic crisis that will only likely embolden various communist parties in western europe, but san marino is to small for anyone to start a war for it

Italy is split in two following the monarchy referendum, north italy becomes socialist/communist and somehow merge with San marino, also communist, the windows is small, only a few years, but it's there.

Mussolini decides he can't have a potential fifth-column smack in the middle of the country, so he annexes it and enlarges his home region. OTL he had the borders moved to have the source of the Tiber in the same.

My favourite one is with Napoleon not respecting its independence during the affair of the bishop and the Congress of Vienna not restoring it.

That seems unlikely since San Marino elected a Fascist government shortly after Italy.

During WW2 the Allies occupied the place. Make a battle for the city happen that destroys it completely; after the War San Marino simply doesn't have enough money to rebuild itself, and petitions to be annexed by Italy.
