Oh dear lord, how quick this will get moved to Chat:

America today is not exactly in a good place, and that's not just because of things that happened in the last few years, but in the last few decades. America in the post-World War 2 generation seemed fine and happy and prosperous, but it seems that at some point in the 70s up until now, things went off track, and we responded to things incorrectly and let things get out of hand. We deregulated some things perhaps we shouldn't have, and oversaw the economy in a way we perhaps shouldn't have. We seem to have treated our Middle class like a Chinese television; seeing what we could take away and cut out, and continually taking away pieces until it barely worked, and now its no longer even barely working, and the Middle class is shrinking. We let our infrastructure crumble, not just in roads and bridges, but in society and the economy.

I frankly can't pinpoint where it went wrong. So I'm leaving that vague. But the challenge is to make that period from somewhere in the 70s when things started to go wrong, and up to today, and make it better and fix or eliminate or preempt the problems.
