Challenge: Elect Ron Paul In 2008

OK, here's my next challenge, folks. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to send Ron Paul to the White House.

With a POD no earlier than January 1, 2007, Ron Paul must fairly win the Republican Nomination for President in 2008. He must beat the Democrats in a fair election, winning the popular vote and electoral vote (no major third parties on either the right or the left are allowed). He must have the same demeanor and same views that he has now, and it must be known that he has those views.

And.....begin! :D

Have the housing bubble pop earlier and have an OTL Tea Party movement start earlier.
Agree on the housing bubble, but the Tea Party is a different matter. As they presently exist, they're rather mixed on Ron Paul. Kinda funny in that they support his son Rand Paul.

A second thing would be to have Paul be a little more articulate, and quicker on his feet. Much like he was in 1988.

As an outside possibility, you could have Paul not make his pledge to avoid running third party, and have him take both the Libertarian and Constitution party nomination (by no means an ASB proposition, he'd been Libertarian party Presidential candidate once, and the only reason that the Constitution party candidate Chuck Baldwin ran was because Ron Paul wouldn't). That might garner enough public attention to attract more to his message, certainly enough that he doesn't have to rely on Alex Jones to get an audience.

its asb with his real life views... he favors going back on the gold standard which disqualifies him from adult conversation and discredits him too easily

Make Ron Paul 15 years younger and make him sound less like a truck driver giving advice to his grandchildren.

His views are popular entertainment to libertarians and many old stlye Republicans. This is too small a group to win anything in such a huge party as the Republicans and you can forget the country.

His views on financial orthodoxy sound good to many but then people will say

"Wait he's going to cut everything!! Some of these cuts are going to affect me and my family too. Whoa I think I will choose McCain or Huckabee or even a Mormon!"

I don't think he needs to be younger. He definitely needs to be more articulate. He comes off as a crazy person sometimes.

You also need to get rid of some competition. Perhaps McCain has a heart attack and finds himself with a spat of ill health while campaigning, forcing him to drop out.

I'm unsure about the other two frontrunners.

Taking both the Libertarian and Constitution party nominations is a good idea as well, especially if it's early on.

If McCain drops dead then Mit Romney gets the nomination. He looks and talks like the typical kind of politician that the American people recognize.

Yes he's a Mormon but so were the Osmonds and they achieved success in America:)

I think a post Obama America has changed all that. But this is 2008 we are talking about. It is 6 months BO (Before Obama).

Ron Paul is unelectable to the mass of the American people. That's why he hasn't been.

He kind of reminds me of Lyndon Larouche but without the elitist (suspiciously Nazi) creepiness.

This is almost ASB. Personally I thought his book was quite good, despite it being a political one but his views either (1) make tons of sense but never get mentioned as an important issue or (2) being something that regular voters won't accept - like cutting government programs.

Have Obama and McCain being revealed to have affairs as well as having them being found guilty of fraud.

YOU would have to have ALL the other candidates caught red handed by the police at a satanic child abusing ritual in the Bohemain Grove.

According to some conspiracy theorists that's what they do in their free time anyway.

Then Ron Paul may have a chance.

Have him endorse Gary Johnson and have Gary Johnson perform well at the debates.

Paul doesn't win, but he ideologue has a shot at the nomination.

Still will lose to Obama sadly.

My PoDs...and RL counterarguments

A few examples-
-Point out to Republicans that Clinton was the first to lie about Iraq WMD. (Of course, IOTL, Republicans rallied behind Hillary to try and stop Obama...)
-Have Bush try the bailouts sooner. Point out that the money would go to companies that should be left to fail in the first place. Also point out that the money would likely be spent on big salaries and things like that. (Of course, IOTL, the Republicans oppose the bailouts because Obama supports them...)
-Point out to Republicans that the Bush Homeland Security apparatus could just as easily be turned on them. (Of course, IOTL, the Republicans are upset because of a few minor reports under Obama. They favor restrictions of rights on Americans- so long as they are Muslim, Arab or Hispanic.)
-Have David Koch and his allies contribute to Ron Paul, and run ads in support of him. (Of course, Democrats and Republicans would cry foul on that. Further, Koch and his allies differed with other branches of the libertarian movement over the direction to take...and even over support of Ron Paul.
http://original.antiwar.com/justin/2010/08/29/in-defense-of-the-kochtopus/ )
-Have federal financing of elections so more people can hear Ron Paul's ideas. (Of course, Paul won't take the money...)
-Have Republicans try and back Alan Keyes for the Republican nod- and then have him pick Palin. Paul gets the Libertarian nod. (the Constitution Party is split between the religious rightists who go to Keyes-Palin, and those who view the Iraq War as "ungodly") Obama nominates either Biden or Hillary. (Of course, this could mean an Obama landslide. For some reason the American people also like Hillary more than Obama- never mind that he has better ethics and principles...and they aren't many...)
-ASB or divine intervention, or massive assassination plots, or terrorism, or epidemic... (Of course, conspiracy theorists may blame Ron Paul...)
