Challenge: Elect Jim Morrisson, Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin or Jimi Hendrix President

I figure this is warped, twisted and borderline ASB, but also fun.

Jim Morrisson, Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin or Jimi Hendrix as President of the United States.

Bonus points if they can be on the same ticket.

They have to have had something resembling their music career (say 3 albums before POD). They can also have their beliefs evolve but no sudden shifts, like "one day, Jimi woke up a Republican Evegangelical and the face of Nancy Reagan's 'Just Say No Campaign'."

how about another morrison?
Marion Morrison

Janis Joplin campaign song: O lord have merci give me a presidency, all my friends are governors, i need to make stand...

I think you should check out Susan Shwartz's "Suppose They Gave A Peace...", which is republished in the anthology Alternate Presidents. If you riffed on that story -- say, by having Nixon blatantly steal the nomination from McGovern -- then perhaps hippie counterculture could take the White House in '76 or '80.

John Wayne? Have him run against these people would be very cool. Like the Janis Joplin campaign song.

Neither Janis nor Jimi Hendrix nor Jim Morrison would make very good presidents because they're artist type personalities. which should be none too surprising!

But you know what, I think both Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan were artist type personalities who focused on a relatively small subset of issues! and we'll have to leave to later discussions when this played to strength and when it didn't.

Don't know about Jerry Garcia.

I didn't say realistic or good. I guess I should've put it in ASB.

It would probably go well until they have a summit with the British Prime Minister, John Lydon. He stormed out the meeting, famously saying "never trust a hippie."
