Challenge: Democrats always win

I understand that for the greater part of the 20th century the democrats were the favorites. Twice the Republicans were reduced to less then 10 seats.

My challenge is to prevent republican victory for the entire century, bonus points for only adjusting democratic policy and without using hindsight. Also discuss the effects of a larger democrat streak.

I don't care if you turn them into the Republican'ts or the Repugnantcans. Just don't let 'em win.

Firstly you need to brainwash everyone on a permanent basis.

Secondly you need to have Democrats change their policy when it goes out of favour.

Hm, this is tough, because the American electorate tends not to like one-party dominance for too long... even if you totally discredit the Republicans somehow, it's more likely that a new party will spring up and continue the two-party system...

Andrew Jackson makes himself president-for-life and reserves the right to appoint his successor.

There is an easier way to do this, people;

Both parties name themselves democrats. That should take care of it.

Well, if the GOP had stuck to their guns and consistently opposed the New Deal after World War II, they would have gone extinct. It was Eisenhower and other GOP leader's willingness to give up on the old laissez-faire economic dogmas that saved the GOP from extinction.

If that happens, it is quite likely the Republican Party as we know it would collapse into obscurity, and the New Deal Coalition Democrats dominate national politics for sometime. However, in a federal system like the US, a one-party state is not likely to remain for long. Depending on which way the Democratic Party leadership moved, you'd likely see a opposition party grow in the opposite. If the Democrats move left towards a sort of nominally Marxian social democracy, a more centrist opposition party will grow, probably resulting from a split in the Democratic Party. And if the Democratic Party moves right, the Socialists would likely peel off the the left-wing of the Democratic Party and form a left-wing opposition.
