Challenge Crusaders Sack Mecca

There it is the mother of all flame wars has begun mwahahaha. What are the long term effects of such an event?

That would be a challenge! You can bet muslim retaliation would be severe. They would probably start to massacre and enslave all christians living in their territories. There would definately be revenge attacks against christian cities, probably Rome itself!
'Notching up' the Crusades in this way could be dangerous, and might push Christianity and Islam into 'total war' for decades or even centuries until one idealogy totally destroys the other.

If this is intended for a serious discussion, simply have raynald's red sea raid be a bit more successful before it is defeated.

Missed the earlier version of this topic so I'll jump in. I'm guessing there would be a lot of attention gathered for a counter crusade with the aim of burning Rome (possibly and/or Constantinople) soon after. The challenge and prestige loss would force something like this. I think the Turks would devote their attention to doing just that instead of messing around trying to nab the Balkans or Vienna.
