Challenge: Castile Not Part of Spain

IOTL, the country of Spain was formed through dynastic union of Castile and Aragon. That doesn't seem to satisfy all of us. A common occurence in ATLs is that of a similar union of Castile and Portugal. Now, even that seems a bit clichéd to me, something like "The South wins the Civil War", though generally begging less rationalization. There was a lot of precedent of intermarriage among the Iberian rulers, after all.

So we have two pairings of the big three post-medieval Iberian states: Castile-Aragon and Portugal-Castile. The third, Aragon-Portugal, seems a bit more challenging to pull off, since its parties are noncontiguous. Thus, I'm putting you all up to it.

The challenge: Make a lasting Christian state in Iberia, generally known as "Spain", that persists alongside a separate Castile. I'm not putting on any particular POD limit, though I prefer that *Spain develop in a similar timeframe to Spain.

I suppose having a Castilian uprising would be necessary. Maybe against the Hapsburgs when the union between Castile and Aragon was still recent?

Depending on when the POD is, they could be contiguous, if Portugal and Aragon get all the southern bit of Spain during the Reconquista so their territories meet. Why might this happen? Well, aside from Castile getting its arse kicked, perhaps a scenario where Castile ended up in a union with Aquitaine and so looked north to the wars in France as much as it did south to the Reconquista.

Simple, have the king of someplace-other-than-Castile-Leon conquer Toledo. This cuts off C-L from the rest of the Muslim ruled areas. This would probably require a PoD in 1040s or so. Maybe an earlier Portugal? I think it would probably work best if Portugal took it then united with Aragon. IN this scenario you'd have Muslim enclaves probably in Lisbon and Granada.
