Challenge: Calais II

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to give England/Britain a new port on the European mainland by the present day with a POD no earlier than the loss of Calais. The port should be somewhere between the northern tip of Jutland and the western tip of Brittany, so Gibraltar doesn't count. Personal unions (like with the Netherlands or Hanover) don't count either.

Maybe if somehow the English keep one of those ports they got with the Treaty of Nonsuch? The English help to the Dutch is more efficient, making the Dutch Republic owing it's independence to England, and they don't claim the ports back.

Maybe a concession after the Napoleonic Wars, to keep the French aware just how close the Brits are? Probably in a friendlier part of France, like Brittany or Normandy.

Oddly enough I was just thinking about that earlier.

Britain did occupy a number of French cities after 1815 for a few years (see map) ; perhaps we could add a port to this and then let it be either 1) retained after the others are evacuated or 2) reoccupied after the revolutions of 1830 or 1848?

Interesting... Are you incorporating this into LTTW?

How will the Empire of Nuffink take it? :p

;)

Actually, England under Cromwell gained control of Dunkirk in 1658 after the Battle of Dunes. Charles II sold it to France in 1662 for money. All you need is some other way for Charles to gain the money he needs, and Dunkirk would remain English.
