Challenge: Benedict Arnold traitor yet hero of the revolution

Alright hiow can Arnold both betray the Revolution but have it be viewed, either from then, or today, as being as one of its greatest heroes? I am not looking for him being viewed on his actions before the betrayal, but either after, during, or by utter mistake.

Had him not betraying the USA during the revolution, but after the US independence. For example, there is a civil war some few years after the Treaty of Paris and Arnold ends up on the "rebel" (i.e. defeated) side. Most people of today would see Arnold in the same way Lee is seen today... "noble yet on the wrong side".

Perhaps he goes over to the British and then goes back to the Patriots with something sufficient to buy his way back into the Patriots' good graces.

(important plans and the like, perhaps)

The whole episode is remembered as a minor incident and, if Arnold's contribution is sufficiently great, could be blamed on someone else (ie "Politician X, due to his thick-headedness, briefly drove the great Arnold into the arms of the British...").

I thought of this one time, it was pretty much Arnold does go over to the British, and gets found out like he does, but the British learn of the plan to take West Point even though Andre is captured. So the British move out cause it sounds like a cake walk, and Arnold wanting to get to either the British or his hands on Andre, suddenly finds his force fighting the British in the rear and causing a weak victory, but one that forces the British to move around in a long flank leaving back to New York.

The entire battle is a misunderstanding, but Arnold is painted as this great military genius who tricked the British. Many with in congress argue that Arnold just got lucky after being found out, but Washington personally defends Arnold.
