Challenge: Agricola/Romans takes whole of Scotland

What it says on the tin essentially :)

I wonder if the "Invasion of Caledonia" could go any better for the Romans? 2/3 of the Scot army escaping is probably the reason why Agricola never pushed further north. Do you think there is a way the Romans could have completed their conquest of mainland Britain and dominated the whole island?

If so, how would this effect Britain and British culture in the long run?

I am not very well versed in Roman history so any help would be appreciated :)

You'd need Rome to have peace and security elsewhere to be able to deploy sufficient legions to conquer and annex Scotland. Even so, I doubt they'd bother penetrating into the highlands; most likely crush the barbarians and nominate an allied leader in their midst as Rome's representative.

You mean something like a vassal state?

A "state" (if one is even possible in the Highlands at this point) which very loosely recognizes Roman authority. Depending on how long the Romans stick around you might see the tribal elite adopting Roman names, seeking Roman education, etc., especially if some of them start being drafted into the Roman military or legions are settled there and intermarry with natives.

Also, a wee bit nitpick: What Scots? This is Pictland at this point.

And stationing legions much to the north of Hadrian's wall is a waste of fighting men.

my guess is Rime would largly keep everything under the antonine wall (if still around) and like you said, make the northern parts more lossly under their control...theyll never get scotland fully, but they may romanise like you said...which could lead to whole sort of ramifications later on, such as a united brtiish isles due to their combined roman heritage

Thanks for the replies so far. They have been quite helpful :)

Leading on from what jkarr and velacso said, lets say that the romans take the lowlands and set up a roman influenced system in the highlands, what will Scotland (or Pictland as Elfwine said) be like in the long run? Assuming the roman empire still collapses on time, will mainland britain be more united than OTL?

Probably not. Butterflies are going to be interesting, though.
